The Iara is a crochet mini worked over with a fine scatter of embroidered sequins, so the surface catches light without ever tipping into glitter. Flowers cut from the same fabric are embroidered and applied by hand, and fringes of fabric and stone fall from the shoulders and the hem, which means the dress keeps moving a half-second after you stop. In soft butter yellow, with a square neckline and a body-skimming line, it is a party dress that still feels like daylight.
Every flower, sequin and strand of fringe is placed by hand in PatBO's atelier in UberlΓ’ndia - Brazil's capital of embroidery - which is why a piece like this takes the time it does.

About PatBO
PatBO was founded in 2002 by Patricia Bonaldi, who learned to sew from her mother as a child in UberlΓ’ndia and began her career hand-making one-of-a-kind gowns in SΓ£o Paulo. Craftsmanship sits at the centre of the label: its collections are embroidered stitch by stitch by artisans in Bonaldi's hometown, where the brand's atelier now numbers some 200 women. In 2015 she founded Projeto Costurando Sonhos, a free school teaching embroidery, hand-beading, sewing and garment construction, so that the craft behind the clothes also becomes a living for the people who make them.
